About

why No Body’s Perfect? because no body is perfect!

The day of the perfect 36-24-36 figure is long past.  We are all uniquely different – some short, some tall, some thin and some “fluffy.”  It is rare that one can buy off the rack and get a perfect fit, especially in bridal and formal wear.  Fashion designers all follow their own specific sizing rules which basically means there are no hard and fast standards for sizes.

What is more important than the number on the size label is the fit of the garment you purchase.  A nip here, a tuck there, and your garment suddenly looks custom made and you feel great.

I learned to sew on my grandma’s hand-me-down treadle sewing machine when I was eight years old. I made my first formal dress while in high school and my first job after high school was at Singer Sewing Center where I sold fabric, sewing machines and made sample garments for store display. Over the years, I have strived to perfect my skills and techniques.

No Body’s Perfect Sewing & Alterations was birthed 10 years ago after I moved back to my hometown to retire.  One request to alter a pageant dress led to another and another and another…and the rest is history.

Now serving the Alleghany Highlands by appointment only and working from my home, I specialize in prom and formal wear, bridal gowns, bridesmaid’s dresses, pageant wear and dance costumes.

I love what I do! When my clients hug me and leave smiling, I know I’ve done my job and that makes me happy!

I look forward to working with you and putting a smile on your face!

I was looking forward to running some errands and then trying to work on decluttering my sewing space, getting ready for coming projects, a task which seems never-ending. A post in my newsfeed about … Continue reading A Lifetime of Projects…

A Step Back in Time

1989…my first bridal commission.  I found these photos while trying to organize my sewing clutter this morning. She had been my children’s babysitter for a summer and her mother I had worked together at the bank. We all attended the same church in our small, very rural farming community. I had just transitioned from working … Continue reading A Step Back in Time
